The latest home design craze embraces the cozy—think fuzzy blankets and extra throw pillows. This style is called “cwtch,” and its expected to grow as a popular housing trend in 2019.
Cwtch (pronounced “kutch”) means a cuddle, a hug, or a hiding place. It’s replacing hygge, another cozy design trend that made waves in home decor over the past two years.
“I think of that rainy day when you just want to curl up and read a good book in your favorite comfy chair—that’s cwtch décor,” Karen Gray Plaisted of Design Solutions KGP in Warwick, N.Y., told realtor.com® about the cwtch fad. “Cwtch gives you that warm, fuzzy feeling inside when you enter into a room.”
How do you channel some cwtch design in a home? Add fresh flowers, fur pillows, and carve out special spaces where you can relax or reflect. “Maybe it is a cozy corner with a window to just relax and daydream or read,” Gray Plaisted told realtor.com®. “It is not so much geared toward any one style or color as it is to what makes you feel good. The spaces with cwtch style have an appealing and intimate feeling. Think of fireplaces, sinking into a comfortable couch with lots of warm blankets, and fluffy pillows.”Source: “What on Earth Is ‘Cwtch’?
